32nd Annual Antique Photo & Postcard Shows: Sunday, March 15
HISTORIC IMAGES: AN ANTIQUE PHOTO SHOW FOCUS
ARLINGTON, VA -
Both customers and exhibitors are invited to bring historic military images to the 32nd Annual Spring D.C. Antique Photo and Postcards Show, Sunday, March 15, at the Holiday Inn Rosslyn, 1900 N. Fort Myer Dr., either to be scanned for future inclusion in Military Images Magazine or appraised for possible future auction consignments at Cowan's Auctions.
The magazine invitation was extended by Editor & Publisher Ronald S. Coddington, a N. Arlington resident who purchased the the 36-year old quarterly in 2013. The appraisal invitation was made by Auctioneer Wes Cowan, also an appraiser on PBS’s ”Antiques Roadshow.”
Documenting the photographic history of the U.S. Soldier and Sailor, Coddington said the magazine “is particularly looking for Civil War images in conjunction with the war’s ongoing 150th year anniversary. But our previous focus has included the period through WW1 and so we’re interested in military images from the next 50 or so years as well.”
Coddington said that he is pleased to be participating in the prestigious Arlington show for the second year and “hopes people will bring plenty of photographs to copy.”
Cowan, who previously exhibited at the show several years ago, said that along with military images he is also interested in a wider range of historic photography, including daguerreotypes, cdvs, cabinet cards, albumens, etc.; and images of Native and African Americans, occupations, et.al. Cowan also will be previewing antique photography which will be featured in the firm’s future auctions. He will be assisted by Matt Chapman.
The DC Antique Photo and Postcard Shows open with an 8:30 AM $25 preview admission and continue 10 AM to 4 PM with a $10 public admission. After 1p.m. students with ID will be admitted free. The hotel is walking distance from Georgetown and only one block from the Rosslyn station on Metro's orange and blue lines. Parking is free.
The 32-year old photo show is in its seventh year of management by Diverse Markets Management, a D.C. company. The related postcard show was added in 2012.
