"Largest Event Yet:" 30th Annual Antique Photo & Postcard Shows

WASHINGTON, DC -More than 110 tables of antique and collectible photographs and postcards will be exhibited for sale 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 10 at the Holiday Inn Rosslyn, 1900 N Ft. Myer Dr, Arlington, VA. Focusing primarily on photography, the 30th Annual D.C. Antique Photo & Postcard shows is the only such specialized event in the region.

Added to this year's mix, which expanded with an additional room devoted solely to postcards last year, will be a main show room over-flowing with antique photography dealers into additional adjacent space. "It's going to be the largest event yet," promised Show Manager Tom Rall, "since our company, Diverse Markets Management (DMM), began managing the show five years ago.

"Much of this year's expansion is attributable to collaboration with The Daguerreian Society, one of the country's most respected photo historical organizations, which is holding a mini-symposium at the hotel on Saturday, March 9," Rall continued. "The joint effort and a greatly-increased DMM social media campaign have really created a buzz about this show."

Probably the longest running photo image show in the country, the transcontinental list of experts from 21 states will offer a full range of antique photo imagery, including daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, CDVs, stereoviews, lantern slides, tintypes, postcards, albums, movie stills, press photos and more.

"We expect to offer more than 70 sales tables of antique photography and the postcard show promoter promises 40 tables of postcards," said Rall.

Participating in the program besides members of The Daguerreian Society will be members of National Stereoscopic Association; Photo Historical Societies of Canada, New England and Michigan; and Magic Lantern Societies, both US and UK. Exhibitors will offer free appraisals throughout the day.

The Daguerreian Society will be holding its annual auction in Rosslyn Ballroom at 2:00 PM Saturday with more than 25 images of daguerreotypes, tintypes, etc. Admission is free for Antique Photo & Postcard show dealers. The general public is also welcome to attend the auction; a contribution will be requested.

The DC Antique Photo Show opens Sunday with an 8:30 AM $25 preview admission and continues 10 AM to 4 PM with a $10 public admission. After 1p.m. students with ID will be admitted free. The hotel is walking distance from Georgetown and only one block from the Rosslyn station on Metro's orange and blue lines.
